The other day I was driving when suddenly I remembered a song I had not heard in a long time - We Could Be Together by Debbie Gibson. Now, don't ask me why it suddenly came to my mind, I don't have an explanation for it :)

This song was one of the hits of 1990 and a real favourite of mine, I vividly remember doing my Add. Maths homework while listening to it. I was doing my A Levels in Sunway College then.

This badge is definitely a different one than the one we use to wear on our shirt when we left school in 88 or 90.

Well, I put on this badge on this blog is just to keep you in attention ! Prefect's senses mah..remember the 4 guards standing straight at the front gate...two at the side and two in the middle...screening on irregularities on students (but for girls, unfortunately..we have our Head girl on the task :) ) coming to school before the gate closed at 7.10 a.m. daily.

Seriously, I wish to inform all of you on the above gathering to-be.. as I receive a call from our senior last Friday...(I thought Abbi calling...recalled how my tougue always got twisted or my voice box got stucked...hard to communicate in England though...:) but piewee...know no more...lah..let all the horses, donkey, Llama comes, I will tackle nicely...hee..hee.hee)

Yes, true to the discipline set, I received an email from him this morning informing on the big reunion in Kuching on this coming 19th October 2007, a Friday also guess what,..same venue and time...The Sarawak Club.. ;)

The Sibu Sacred Heart School Alumni Association of Kuching will hold its annual reunion dinner
on Friday, 19 October 2007 starting 7.00 pm, at Sarawak Club, Kuching. The theme for this
year’s dinner is “Celebrating 20 years of Togetherness”. All old students and their family
members and friends are urged to join for a relaxing and fun-filled evening.

Only 40 tables are available. Each ticket is priced at RM40.00. (RM400 per table)

It's Friday Again !

It's Friday again ! Looking forward for a relaxing Saturday and Sunday ? For me, I have quite a hectic schedule ahead, a management & operations meeting on Saturday (full day though), aday of recollection among with my key staff and Sunday, the usual matters with kids and have two marriage dinners to attend....huh...but none of my bestfriend's dinner, still waiting for the day to come by...

Hey, next week at this moment, I believe many of us will be eager to look "EXTRA" good (especially those huggers) for the evening as we have the Kuching Get-Together which shall start at 7.00pm sharp at Sarawak Club, Kuching !

Girls and Guys, you have a week's time to ensure that you look good next week for the moment of truth...I have some suggestions for you to consider (please consider deeply, do not regret later);

a) Go for nice grooming session @ nice hair cut or facial massage.

b) Fast/fruit detox for the next 7 days to look slimmer :)

c) Update your history knowledge, if you have forgotten your backgrounds

d) Practice your smile

e) Go extra class on "hugging"

f) Buy new clothing ?

Hugging....not quite an Asian Culture

Since some of the potential attendees of the up-coming "Cover Version" reunion in Kuching is going to come (or not to come) based on how much hugging activities will be happening at the event....I thought I might as well start the week off by putting up a post on the subject.

Like Stephen, I haven't hugged my mum for ages. Nor my brother or sister. Mine is quite a pro-western kind of family, but still not western enough to openly show affection amongst family members through hugging each other. I think it's quite a sad thing that the old Asian culture doesn't have a habit of hugging....I'm sure that's going to be a thing of the past when the Kch reunion falls into place! By the way, am I correct to say that Malay families hug each other more than the Chinese do?

Personally, I've only come across people who are very open to hugging as a gesture of affection in the last 4-5 years. Which also means that I've hugged/been hugged (by people who are not family) more in the last 4-5 years compared to in the last 20 years. And it's one of the most effective natural energy and morale booster around. I'm glad to say that I've never stopped hugging my nephews - they're now aged 21, 19 and 15. And the same goes for my husband too, we usually start our day with a hug. One 3-sec hug a day strengthens a marriage in leaps and bounds.

Many years back, Leh Ning & I both observed that the guys do a lot of "touching" as a bonding gesture when they meet up after a long while...and by "guys", we mean YOU lah. You pat each other on the shoulders and your hands give each other's back a good rub. Then, when you're seated you give each other a good slap on the thigh - pap! Are we right or not? Strangely, the girls refrain from ANY kind of physical contact when we meet up. Hmmm....I'm sure you guys would have much to say on this..

If you're not yet a hugger, better start practising!

Merdeka Parade

I don't know when did they start this Merdeka Parade in every town. During our school days, when it is 31 August....... it's a holiday. In our text book, they only let us know 31 August is "kemerdekaan Malaysia". They did't tell us about 16 Sept. When we check Sarawak's almanac, they put TYT birthday in Sept every year and the date always changed because they want to put it on Saturday. So our TYT have to change his birth date in his IC and birth cert every year?

Still remember those colour? and now they have another colour.... green, I think green is for librarian. During our days, we have to do both prefect and librarian at the same time.

45th Merdeka Do Next Year

KUCHING: The Sarawak government has resolved to hold a grand celebration next year to mark the 45th anniversary of the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963. Sarawak to observe its own Malaysia Day Sept 16 next year besides celebrating 51st National Day on Aug 31: DCM

Finally, our State Government did it...as reported in Borneo Post today !

This will probably mark a start of a new chapter or just to cool certain parties off...whatever it is,..a possible additional holiday ? :)

Development of SIbu

Do you know where is this place? What are the buildings before this? I took this pic this morning. Some of us knew where is this place and what are the buildings.

Now it is Dataran Sibu where it is used to be our sports stadium and where I've learned my driving lesson there 18 years ago. JPJ is just across the stadium next to "rumah tumpang" for Iban to stay and Lau King Howe Hospital. Can you guys still remember all the buildings? Even the Kampung Dato is missing bit by bit and the river is getting more and more polluted each day. Development of Sibu.

We Malaysians Celebrate 50 Years Of Independence

OUR 50th Merdeka Day is just 7 days away. On this blessed day in 1957, the Federation of Malaya became independent of Britain. Malayan soil was, for the first time since 1511, completely independent!

The effort for independence was spearheaded by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, who led a delegation of ministers and political leaders of Malaya in negotiations with the British in London for Merdeka, or independence. Once it became increasingly clear that the Communist threat posed during the Malayan Emergency was petering out, agreement was reached on February 8, 1956, for Malaya to gain independence from the British Empire. However, for a number of logistical and administrative reasons, it was decided that the official proclamation of independence would only be made the next year, on August 31, 1957, at Stadium Merdeka (Independence Stadium), in Kuala Lumpur.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj announced the independence of Malaya from the British on August 31 1957 at Stadium Merdeka.

Although all of us are still 'hanging' somewhere during that time in 1957, but we must not forget what our past leaders had made a peaceful and harmony Malaysia for all of us here today. We should proud to be a MALAYSIAN.

Photo Finale - Upper Six Arts 1

Finally, finally, finally....I've been wanting to post this photo since almost 2 weeks ago, but blockades came up here and there. And if you ask me what I did to be able to log in to the blog? (cause I'm still on my laptop)....well, I know I clicked something, but I don't know what it was, they're all just buttons to me.

Know your own place first !

I believe all would have seen this logo and especially the celebration of 50 years of Nationhood...if you have not please do observe on buses, coffee shops, hotels or places of tourist attraction. The other day, I was having coffee with our friend, Heroes, we were talking about our Sydney trip in 2005, what a wonderful trip...and as we were sharing this tourism aspect, we touched on Sibu and local places...I realised that I have been looking out to overseas trip but there are still many great places in Sarawak that I have not been to...except these places...

- Sarikei (many times)

- Bintangor (many times)

- Betong (once only)

- Batang Ai (once only)

- Sri Aman (5 times)

- Serian (many times)

- Kota Samarahan (many times)

- Kapit (2x only)

- Bintulu (many times)

- Mulu (once only)

- Miri (many times)

I still recall on the Kapit trip (in 1990 - that was 17 years back, after our U6) where 10 or 11 of us (schoolmates - boys and girls) went for a 2 days 1 night trip to visit Kapit and also the great 7 storey waterfall...it was a very good experience as we journey on foot to the waterfall (about 45 minutes)...

Yet to go are; Kanowit (only passed by), Mukah, Balingian, Lawas, Marudi, Limbang, Song, Bakun, Pelagus etc.

May be I have taken these places for granted as thought I have a lot of time to go for these places than overseas...or because of the attraction presented in the movie or TV or annual calendar. Whatever the reason is, I hope I could complete visiting all the major towns of Sarawak soon.

JOHN FAM

As with Ivy, I also have difficulty in just saying "John". I would always call him "jonfam". I doubt it if John Fam actually remembers me, but the above picture was taken when we were sending Brother John Albinus off at Sibu Old Airport, ending his tenure at Sacred Heart. The faces I remember in that picture is Ignatius Yong (correction by Ivy), our then Scoutmaster who also happened to be a Taekwondo Instructor (I think at that time, 1987, he already has 2nd or 3rd Dan). Kong Soon Shu, my classmate in 2A3 and 3A4, Thadeus, Francis Tiong, our junior in SHS who is now a successful Shell engineer. I believe that was Jimmy Ting King Kong at the back of the Penolong Kanan with his face barely seen.

Also our incoming Principal then, Samuel Tan Yan Pheng.

There were a few Scouters in that picture but I could not remember their names.

'95 Reunion Photo

I am learning from scratch how to scan a photo, convert it into a .jpeg file, and then post it on this blog. Can everyone please bear with me for the moment, I know it's probably something to do with the scanning...anyone want to offer me some advice? I've decided to just let it be till I re-do the scanning. You can see the enlarged picture when you click on it, so what the heck!

Firmness for Life

Rather looking at the bums of people which I think it has made me no appetite this afternoon to have sumptuous lunch, I decided to put up this blog to hopefully able to find my appetite and focus back (also to cheer up Ivy a bit on better posture of men's body).

Well, always looking forward to have such a body outlook during teens time...but no matter how focus I am, could not even have 5% of such curves (thanks to "Kampua challenge held every Friday/Saturday evening back then")...I met one of our juniors over the last weekend in KL Midvalley, he has at least 30% of such outlook...still slim and firm with 6 packs at the age of 35. He shared the secret with me that he is doing 300 reps daily beside other gym routines...

Re-ignited with full desire, hopefully, could have the 20% looks in 6 months time...just well enough before our reunion in Feb 2008 ! (For a start, at least this afternoon save 300 calories, thanks to Ah Tee's canning blog) :)

On a factual note, we must even be more concern of healthy living...to ensure fitness is real in our life.

Gosh...I have been active to sport when young but now..as to illustrate further...I've noticed the declining of sporting activities in my life;

15-24 Playing Squash on almost daily

25-30 2-3 times weekly

30-33 once a week

after 33 till now half yearly, subject to availability of partner

Must start to be "young" again,...Ah Tee...must play more often...lah. Heroes, hope you could join us back ! If not our "potto-chai" are getting larger...hehehe..
