Paths Crossed

Sometimes, no matter how big the world is, its always small enough for you to bump into your old friends :)

In 1989, when I was at Taylor's college, Ting Siik Siew and Eng Kia Hock were in the same college. During that time, Stephen Chung and Peter Yii were my mahjong kakis during weekends. Kong Lieng Tee went to my uni in UK in 1992.

When I came back to KL in '96 I met Stephen Yii and Anthony Ting again. Later Eric Phang came to KL to work and stayed with me for a few years.

David Hii married one of the girls from my church, and soon I'll be working for him :)

And various times in my 10 years in KL, I met Dennis Chua Hock Lim, Liu Chuan Ming , and Ngu Sia Hook.

Who did you bump into since you left SHS (not counting reunion lah :) )?

I always wonder where the old boys would hangout when they come back to Sibu? Sugar Bun? usually in our olden days when Sugar Bun was Hot we call it the Sacred Heart boy's second canteen :)

Hey independence, thanks for the great stories, I remember I met you back in '96 (by the way, Eric told me who you are :) ) just after I came back from UK.

Indeed, a lot of my current friends are amazed that us ex-SHS friends still keep in touch after all these years.

I used to love telling my wife the story of how we all ended up at Ah Chai's house to play "see kee pui" back in 1986. Yeah, its been 20 years! And of course, I told her the story of Eric's mom the mah jong sifu, too!

Desmond, the hang out place for ex-SHS seems to be :-

1. Sibu new wet market

2. Tanah Mas cafe or lounge

3. Kingwood Hotel

Or else, you will sure bump into them at any of the kamp pua places, especially during CNY :)

School time was the best time for all of us and there were tons of sweet and sad memories everyone of us had.

Wow, its been about 16 years since I left SHS in 1990 after completing my STPM. Uni life is always my dream til now...When I have completed my SPM with some good result and entering Form Six, I was told by my mum that they can't afford to send me to further study in Uni and furthermore, my mum also hope that I could find a job after my Form Six as to accompany them as my sister has gone to Singapore to work in 1990. At that time I was indeed sad as I can't make my dream come true but one thing I glad was that I spent very meaningful time with my parents especially my mum til she passed on on 3 March 1993. I never regret and never blame my mum of not letting me go to Uni.

In June 1991, I went to Sibu airport to sent my friends off as they are going to KL to further their studies. The sad moment came again and that week I can't sleep well as I was admired my friends who could further their studies in KL especially my best friend Stephen Yii. I stayed back in Sibu and found a job as a clerk in Hock Hua Bank in July 1991. There I and Sim Peck Tak were collegues and we joined at the same time. The following year, in Ausgust 1992, I applied to the management to transfer me to Kuching as my mum was very sick and need to undergo radiotherapy in Kuching for her womb cancer. Finally, a month later, my transfer ahd been approved and from that moment onward I back to Kuching again which is my hometown and birth place.

In Kuching, I started my new journey of life. My mum passed on the following year. I kept in touch with Stephen Yii, Anthony Ting, Stephen Chung, Patrick Ling when they are in Uni. I still remembered we used the free phone kad to contact each other. Sometime we talked for few hours. During the first few years in Kuching, I don't have any classmates to hang around, so have to find new friends in my workplace. In 1995, I asked for transfer to West Malaysia to work as I would like to explore myself to biggger environment. Finally they granted my request and I choose Bukit Mertajam, Penang as my destination and I promoted to Officer. I stayed there for a year and back to Kuching again. During my time in Penang, I met with Chuan Ming as he study there. I made a lot of new friends there and til now we still keep in touch. I used to travel down to KL to vist Stephen and friends during weekend. I still rememeber, one occasion, Stephen Yii droved me with his motobike and I was so tired and fell asleep.....I nearly fell down from his bike.....luckily this didn't happen if not......

I back to Kuching again in end of 1996. I was jobless for 4 month and I worked as an Insurance Adjuster in March 1997 til September 1997. I met Stephen Yii again in Kuching as he came back from KL in 1996 and worked at their Hong Leong Assurance Kuching Branch.

Later I joined an Insurance Broking company. This job was introduced by Stephen as he knew my boss was looking for someone to handle their clients' claim. I met some of my primary school classmates who were also in insurance line.

I met a lot of our classmates in Kuching beside Stephen, like Paul, Anthony, Kwong Hock, Allan Ngang, Magdelan, Audrey, Anthony Lai, Sii Jing, Yat Lai, John Wong and few more.

7 swords.....yeah, still in my memories til now. I treasured the time we shared at my house and also the mahjong session. Sometimes, Stephen Yii, Anthony, Ching Chai, Stephen Chung, Chee Kiong and Poh Kian were spent overnight at my house. We spent whole day at my house during weekend. Lunch and dinner at my place where my mum cooked some delicious food for me and sometime they just ate the goreng pisang, kentang etc.....Stephen Yii like it very much.....

I was transfered to KL in 1998 til 2000 to my company's KL branch. There I stayed with Patrick Ling and spent some sweet memories time in KL and also met some of our classmates like Lieng Tee, Siik Siew, Hock Lim, Chuan Ming, Stephen Chung, Peter Yii, Sia Hook and few more.

Last but not least, I would like to thank my best friend, Stephen Yii for everything that he had helped me during my sad and happy moment that I will never forget in my life.

Cheers.....
