School Holiday is here again

Many of us (including myself) may now be going through 2nd cycle of school holiday in our life but this time is with our kids. Yes, the school is on 2 week holidays or Semester Break. As my wife and I are working, we just send our kids to playschool. They will play from morning till evening but under the care of their teacher whereby they will also be given 1 hour tuition.

During old times, this period of time is the best of life....no need to study ! I will wake up early and go from morning (after my dad goes to work at 7.00 a.m) till night time...just before my dad came home at 6pm.

Last Sunday, I saw in the neighbourhood, people flying kites. I recall the time I used to make my own kites and making "kaca" for "kite war". Flying kites has season same to other games like guli, coins or "zero point", fish rearing especially on "fighting" fish, fishing from longkau (getting those lehus...the stream is very clear and clean unlike today when I go back to those longkaus...it is horrible, I must admit, couldn't believe I have once bare myself there...hehehe) etc. Umm, that was more towards during my primary school time...

When coming to Secondary school...lower form to be exact, I like to venture out on my bicycle with friends to unknown places or to end of road, having picnic or swimming (swimming stops after the afternoon incident....(sigh)... if not I could be the next national champ) and of course beside spending time in public library reading Hang Tuah, Jebat, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys etc. We also have bicycle racing among us from school gate to greai kampua in Tiong Hua Road, near towards Louis' house.

In the upper form, movie, mahjong, chess, lepaking at friend's house became my favourite past time. On yes..this is also the time, we have upgraded ourself from "bic" to "bike" racing..speeding on the road....vroooom...hehehe "amateur mat rempit" of Jalan Oya...with Chee Kiong, Okui, Anthony, Ah Chai and Chung (btw Heroes, normally grab us from behind...as he has no B license..mahh). Our race track is from SHS from gate to Heroes' house...apprx..1.5 km. Most of the time...Chee Kiong is champion, what to do...he has a Suzuki 110cc ! (I am on Yamaha-88, the rest are on Honda 90).

School holiday is also a time for making extra pocket money where I work part time making bicycle bags, paper bags or working in woodworking industries with my dad and grandpa. It is a love and hate situation :)

Hmm, from the sharing, I do not think my kids will go through the similar playing route like what I have gone through...may be it is because of my own protection or worries about high risks exposure when compare to our time ? or their preference has been influence by the world of TV or friends around with new gadgets as different to our time whereby limitation of TV programme like cartoon, I have to wait for TV 1 or 2 to screen once a while...somemore in black and white in the early days. Today, my son has more DVD cartoon of nearly every series for Power Ranger, Ultraman etc.

Next week, I am sending them back to their grandparents for a week holiday and in hope of opening their eyes to more learning...it is a win-win situation..hehehe..I also will get a week holiday mah ...

I don't even know this week is school holidays until my colleague told me so. heheh.....

About flying kites, in my childhood life i never successfully flying it high in the sky and therefore normally i would rather enjoy watching my friends flying.

Bicycle...hmmm....yeah i have a mini bic which normally used by girls..... this is because of my height that won't allow me to cycle a bigger bic lor..... but when racing i always among the top three..... ehem... we used to cycle to Bukit Aup.

Swimming..... in form 1 or 2, a group of my friends always go to swim at Bukit Lima swimming pool until one day....... an incident happen to me and another friend at the pool..... then after that incident we stop going there anymore until today.

Hey, MGB, u forgot one thing, about watching movie at King Theatre & Rejang Park..... wow...nice movies..... a group of us about 15 persons...... can't u remember?

Yeah, upper form was the most fun part as we have ventured into mahjong game, chess and movies.... My house was the mahjong training ground for most of my friends like MGB, pat, anthony, chee kiong, chung, peter, ker ung, etc.....

MGB and heroes,

Thinking of the childhood activities that we had had, it is most heart-breaking for those moments have gone as we age.

Bicycle racing. It is something that we look forward after night studies in the library.

MGB, Do you still remember that we would slow down at this particular girl's house and then shout as loud as we could for her name before we speed off; slightly faster than Ben Johnson's record before we reach the kampua store?

Then, at the kampua store we challenge you for tauhu jui and kampua. It is like "Deal or no Deal" as shown in TV. I wonder if NTV 7 got that idea from us??

In those days, we don't give a damn shit to diabetic, cholesterol and cancer as anyting can go down our throat is fabulous. Without much thought, you say "deal" .

Within minutes, you finished 2 or 3plates of kampua and a botol of tauhu jui. All the buddies' jaws drop, including the Tauke and Ah Ma at the store seeing you finshing the food like Incredible Hulk.

We cried murder for losing RM xx. Si bei Tulan!

Joe, definitely you have mistaken other for me...as I have never done any howling act in front of anyone's house...

For kampua and soaya challenge, it is real but not few plates, it is only RM1 worth of kampua bo baht....during that time...it is damm extra large...probably equivalent to 2 plates...as standard bo baht wad RM0.70 per plate.

Plus 1 litre of tauhu chui...the total bet is only RM1.50 but I have to admit it was a big sum then....I am just happy to finish without sweat...hehehe

Today,...I must say that I still have the appetite especially when I am stressed out (I know not a good way to release stress...) but I will not take the challenge anymore...as I love health more as awareness of such threats is increasing.

The other sweet activity is camping activity with BBQ & bonfire inclusive. Chit-chatting plus sharing horror stories throughout the night was refreshing...hmmm..it is fantastic time !

Hey guys. Just came back from Gawai leave.

I was not really part of that kampua group those days but i remembered one occassion that i did join u guys. That evening after night study, somehow in our conversations the word "masturbate" came out and i remembered clearly our Mr. Tee innocently (or playing innocent)asked "Apa itu kamu cakap? Plastik beg ahh?" ...

Hahhh... those were the days. My time was mostly spent with Frankie Jeffrey when after night study we would lepak at volleyball court, just lying there gazing at the stars talking at about life, about anything and everything.

Abang Ted,
I was innocent at that time. Thanks for intro me that word and what a wonderful feeeeeling!!!
Dun bengkok ur thinking, ok?

If u recall, I was also intro to 'leak' at nite by Colin Phang and u ended up clarifying with ur story to clinic and check up. What a laugh mate!!!

But it was nice. We were having a supper after night class at the coffeeshop next to Lieng Tee's dad grocery store at Lrg Lanang 13, I think.
