Lady's Power

When I read the Borneo Post this morning, I happy to note that a Malaysian lady has beaten all the top 3 Chinese shuttlers in her route to become first Malaysian to win a major international badminton in this era. She is Wong Mew Choo !

When I searched up in Yahoo about her....I came to this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mew_Choo_Wong

Rumour saying (as highlighted in Wiki) that her boyfriend is the national champion, Lee Chong Wei...well,...birds of the same feather fly together ???

I am further impressed that the Wikipedia also noticed of her rise as one of the superpower lady in the badminton arena. It has been a long time (may I say I could recalled of other lady who had this success...in my time of course) for a Malaysian lady shuttler to achieve such a fame. In 1980s till now...they are mostly dominated by male shuttlers and especially the Sidek's family who brings most of the glory through Misbun, Razif, Jalani and Rashid.

In squash (my all time favourite leisure game)...we have Nicol David, a Penang beauty is the World No.1 (Hopeful that she can maintain her status as No.1 by year end). You can also find her background at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicol_David .

As for male in squash...the success is limited (the most successful would be Ong Beng Hee who reached World No.7 status two years back) when compared to Nicol's achievement probably due to selection of coach whereby Nicol has two former World No.1 to guide her path.
Ironically, Mew Choo & Nicol are born in the same year, 1983...piggy year (same zodiac sign with the piglet group + me...:) )...Well, a great salute to these power ladies...as they have put Malaysia Boleh in true spirit.

Although Mew Choo had beaten the chinese players in the China Open and became the first Malaysian woman to win a major international championship in badminton, but again as she mentioned after she became champion in China Open, her performance is not consistent as compare with other china players whom to be more consistent than her.

It's proven the fact as she was beaten tamely in the opening match by Salakjit Ponsana of Thailand in three sets. The Thai has beaten her in the Sudirman Cup this year.

Therefore, there still a long way to go for Mew Choo to maintain as one of the top players in the world.
