Lets cheer up the Blog

Back to Basics

It’s time to go back to basics.

There’s something called mutual respect in this world. It’s a very very thin line between standing our ground and letting others stand theirs. It’s a thin line between insisting on freedom of speech and choosing not to voice our opinion. It’s a thin line between making our presence known and tresspasing another person’s space. It's a thin line between keeping your right in staying anonymous and letting your friends know who you are.

We’ve all put Pat in a spot and that’s rather unfair. If any of us didn’t know or have forgotten what was the original reason for the creation and existence of this blog, please re-visit Pat’s first posting here http://shs8890.blogspot.com/2006/01/hello.html Anyone missed out the words “8890”? But the blog, and particularly Pat, has always welcomed everyone from the SHS clan, even if you’re not from our batch. It’s an act of mutual respect. Pat chose to trust that anyone who visited this blog would also show the same mutual respect.

We’ve got a self-esteem issue if we keep wanting to have the last word whenever the majority votes are against our view, or when we keep feeling the need to defend our stand. If in our mind we have no doubts at all that our point is right, and we want to stand by it, go ahead and do it lah, but quietly…why the need to make it known? Why put Pat in a spot?

Mutual respect, let’s all learn some.

Lady's Power

When I read the Borneo Post this morning, I happy to note that a Malaysian lady has beaten all the top 3 Chinese shuttlers in her route to become first Malaysian to win a major international badminton in this era. She is Wong Mew Choo !

When I searched up in Yahoo about her....I came to this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mew_Choo_Wong

Rumour saying (as highlighted in Wiki) that her boyfriend is the national champion, Lee Chong Wei...well,...birds of the same feather fly together ???

I am further impressed that the Wikipedia also noticed of her rise as one of the superpower lady in the badminton arena. It has been a long time (may I say I could recalled of other lady who had this success...in my time of course) for a Malaysian lady shuttler to achieve such a fame. In 1980s till now...they are mostly dominated by male shuttlers and especially the Sidek's family who brings most of the glory through Misbun, Razif, Jalani and Rashid.

In squash (my all time favourite leisure game)...we have Nicol David, a Penang beauty is the World No.1 (Hopeful that she can maintain her status as No.1 by year end). You can also find her background at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicol_David .

As for male in squash...the success is limited (the most successful would be Ong Beng Hee who reached World No.7 status two years back) when compared to Nicol's achievement probably due to selection of coach whereby Nicol has two former World No.1 to guide her path.
Ironically, Mew Choo & Nicol are born in the same year, 1983...piggy year (same zodiac sign with the piglet group + me...:) )...Well, a great salute to these power ladies...as they have put Malaysia Boleh in true spirit.

From Michael........

Just wanna share this write up which has been circulating around the web since last year. There's truth in this write up which inspires me to post it and share it. The truth is local media doesn't really report the TRUE NATURE of happenings. Why are we as Anak Malaysia who lauded Malaysia Boleh not given the chance to judge by ourselves on events that happened around us? We are often being blinded by covered up stories of true happenings. I think it is high time at this IT era, the local authorities should STOP do cover up stories. We have Internet remember? We can surf for news about our country from overseas news. Just show us the truth and let us know what is really happening so we may vote the people who we think can lead our country instead of bunch of jokers who just make us laugh especially if you are following the Parliament proceedings.

Stop wasting money sending A PERSON to space where the RM95m can be used to subsidise diaries products, petrol or whatever that can help to minimise the current price hike. I strongly believe if money is properly channeled into our economy, the price hike won't be as bad as now.

This is getting sick because we know what is happening and yet there is little to be done. WHY? Time to stand up for our kids future, ladies and gentlemen? I don't mean to provoke anything here but I just want to see a balanced country for all races. Election is round the corner. Use your vote wisely. Check out their slogans and make sure they honoured their words said 5 years ago. BTW, have your area's road access being re-tarred? This is usually the case when nearing election time. Funny eh?

Just my two cents!

As Thanksgiving Draws Near

Two Words Which Will Change Your Life
by Rhonda Bryne
The Secret Scrolls

There are two words that, when spoken, have the most unfathomable power to completely change your life. Two words which, when they pass your lips, will be the cause of bringing absolute joy and happiness to you. Two words that will create miracles in your life. Two words that will wipe out negativity. Two words that will bring you abundance in all things. Two words which, when uttered and sincerely felt, will summon all the forces and vibrations in the Universe to move all things for you.

The only thing standing between you, happiness, and the life of your dreams, are two words...

THANK YOU

Gratitude is one of the easiest and most powerful ways to transform your life. If you become truly grateful, you will magnetize absolute joy to you everywhere you go, and in everything you do. In fact, without gratitude, nothing can ever change. Your life will change to the degree that you use gratitude and begin to feel grateful. If you are just a little bit grateful, your life will change a little bit. If you are very grateful, your whole life will change. If you live gratitude every single day, you will become one of the greatest human beings on the planet, and the light of your life will uplift our world.

The greatest human beings who have ever lived showed us the way with gratitude, and by their example became shining lights in our history. Einstein said "thank you" hundreds of times every single day! Ancient wisdom dating back thousands of years gave us the truth about gratitude. Every single religion speaks of giving thanks. All the sages and saviors of the world demonstrated the use of gratitude in all their teachings.

Of the thousands of letters we receive from people whose lives have become miracles after experiencing The Secret, every single one of them has made gratitude their way of life. It is impossible to be negative when you are giving thanks. It is impossible to criticize or blame when you are feeling grateful. It is impossible to feel sad when you are in gratitude. Most people are sporadically grateful, however, to change your life with gratitude, a new way of learning how to be truly grateful is what will bring unlimited happiness into your life.

So how do you live in gratitude? Begin your day by feeling grateful. Be grateful for the bed you just slept in, the roof over your head, the carpet or floor under your feet, the running water, the soap, your shower, your toothbrush, your clothes, your shoes, the car that you drive, your job, your friends, your refrigerator that keeps your food cold. Be grateful for the weather, the sun, the sky, the birds, the trees, the grass, the rain, and the flowers. Be grateful for the stores that make it so easy to buy the things you need, the restaurants, the utilities and services and electrical appliances that make your life effortless. Be grateful for magazines and the books that you read. Be grateful for the chair that you sit on, and the pavement that you walk on. Be grateful for your favorite music that sweeps you away, and for movies that make you feel good. Be grateful for your phone that connects you with people, for your computer, for the electricity that lights up your life. Be grateful for air travel that flies you everywhere. Be grateful for the roads and traffic lights that keep the traffic in order. Be grateful to those who built our bridges. Be grateful for your pet, for your child, for your loved ones, for your eyes that enable you to read this. Be grateful for your imagination. Be grateful that you can think! Be grateful that you can speak. Be grateful that you can laugh and smile. Be grateful that you can breathe! Be grateful that you are alive! Be grateful that you are You! Be grateful that there are two words that can change your life!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

The more that you practice gratitude the more deeply you will feel it in your heart, and the depth of the feeling is the key. The more deeply and sincerely you feel it, the more you will bring absolute bliss and happiness on every single subject. Watch what happens in your life when you practice gratitude every single day and in every single moment and in every opportunity that you can. Remember, if you are criticizing, you are not being grateful. If you are blaming, you are not being grateful. If you are complaining, you are not being grateful. If you are feeling tension, you are not being grateful. If you are rushing, you are not being grateful. If you are in a bad mood, you are not being grateful.

To understand the power and the magic of gratitude, you have to experience it for yourself. So why not begin by deciding to find 100 things a day to be grateful for? As you practice gratitude every day, it won't take long before gratitude is your natural state of being, and when it happens you will have unlocked one of the greatest Secrets to Life.

Sports Day (Part 1)

Back in the 80's, every year Sports Day for SHS will be held at the SMC Padang. 1988 was particularly memorable, as that year there was a class competition for best cheerleading team. Okay, maybe asking a boys school to do cheerleading wasn't such a good idea (luckily no one decided to come in skirts and pom-poms, hehe), but we had a lot of fun nevertheless.

See how many friends you can recognize from the pictures.

More time...

Beside the destiny of life or God's arrangement, can anybody care to share on how to live a longer and fruitful life from your own perspective ?
Hey,..may be many of us would say...I don't know...I just try my best to live a great life and other than that it is God's will.
Yes..yes..if our time is up and when God needs us to be with him in heaven, no matter how great we have planned our life...we would just have to let go from the beautiful life that we have lived...but then again, when we are given time to plan, we may want to live with a difference and responsible especially to our loved ones.
What if I said you could add up to ten years to your life? A long healthy life is no accident. It begins with good genes, but it also depends on good habits. If you adopt the right lifestyle, experts say, chances are you may live up to a decade longer.
So what's the actual right formula for success?
Somebody had suggested the following;
a) Good genes
b) Good habits of living
- appreciate and be thankful to what you have
- always be happy mode and release your stress
- good balanced eating/drinks (go vege, organic, monthly detox will rejuvenate our machine)
- somebody suggested..an eyeful a day on the breast will prolong for men..for ladies, still
searching for the suggestion...any proposal ?).
- exercise well inclusive of good breathing..chi practice.
- have positive thinking...discard negative thoughts
- mix with lovely and dearly family and friends - sharing of happiness with friends
- sleep early and well...(sleep with a lot of dreaming is also not good, overslept is also not
good)
- have medical checks at least once in every two years
- learnt to manage your financial well so that it will not burden you but assist you to live a
better life (at least given better option to choose).
- contribute back and support the less fortunate (the more you give, the more you shall
receive)
- have good spiritual foundation and practices to lighten up one's spirit
- able to forgive those who fault against you...and ask forgiveness openly from those you
have hurt..(a tough action but if you sincerely open up, it is very rewarding action)
Frankly on the good genes....that is already formatted by our parents since the conception of us (supposedly we are the best among the millions of our bros/sis)...nothing much we could change. However, we could still ensure best condition for our body and life to live to the fullest through the suggested good habits of living...at least also to ensure better genes could be given to our offsprings...and they could be the fittest to survive for fruitful live.

Live A Great Life ahead...

A Gentle Reminder

I lost a dear friend 2 days ago. He was as fit as any fit person could be but was gone in the blink of an eye. As much as Frankie's passing in May has made me think a lot about getting back in touch with old friends, it didn't hit as hard as seeing my friend lying in peace. That I would never hear him speak or laugh again was really difficult to accept.

My apologies if this posting is too solemn for some of us, but I'd like to gently remind all of us who are gathered on this blog to appreciate that we have everyday to communicate with each other. Let's not take for granted the moments that we are able to meet face to face and enjoy each other's company.

I'm looking forward to our next get-together!! Christmas Gathering, anyone?

Toys Made in China

READ THIS MESSAGE CAREFULLY...especially those with kids...CHRISTMAS/YEAR END IS COMING, BE CAREFUL ON WHAT YOU GIVE ESPECIALLY THOSE TOYS MADE IN CHINA (FOR TOHSE BELOW AGE OF 3)...YOU MAY BE GIVING AWAY ILLNESS INSTEAD OF JOY TO THESE KIDS...

SCOTT McDONALD, Associated Press Writer Sun Nov 11, 9:44 AM ET
BEIJING - China's safety watchdog confirmed Saturday that toy beads recalled in the United States and Australia after sickening children contain a substance that can turn into the "date-rape" drug after ingested. The toys, coated with the industrial chemical 1,4-butanediol, were made by the Wangqi Product Factory in Shenzhen, a city just over the border from Hong Kong, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine said in a statement.

When ingested, the chemical metabolizes into the "date-rape" drug gamma hydroxy butyrate, also known as GHB, which can cause breathing problems, loss of consciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death.

Millions of units of the popular toys, which are sold as Aqua Dots in the United States and as Bindeez in Australia, were recalled in those countries as well as Britain, Malaysia, Singapore and elsewhere this past week after children began falling sick from swallowing the toy's bead-like parts.

The recall is the latest in a slew of product quality scandals that has tarnished China's image as an exporter of reliable goods. The government has tried to shore up the country's reputation by increasing inspections, selectively punishing companies and launching a publicity campaign to boost quality.

The toys are manufactured for Australia-based Moose Enterprises, and production was outsourced to Wangqi by a Hong Kong agent, the safety watchdog said. It did not identify the Hong Kong company."

BTW, I AM WONDERING WHY ARE THESE MANUFACTURERS DO SUCH A DESPICABLE ACT ? DON'T THEY HAVE KIDS ALSO ? OR THEY FAMILY OR RELATIVES ALSO MAY BE AFFECTED TOO ?

Be Careful and Check Our Greed

As you read this message from a FRIEND...I believe many of us would have come across such business activity...
This COZEN business incident happened at Wisma Seberkas, Kuching, Sarawak ..The True Story from my Aunty's Experience: -The salespersons came to approach and persuade my aunty by saying that there is a lucky draw from their shop. When come to their shop, they gave a numbered voucher for lucky draw, bring my aunty to a corner to play lucky pick games in computer. Then the salespersons told my aunty that she wins a big prize which is an equipment to absorb smoke and oil and a gas stove. However, to redeem the Big Prize, my aunty will need to purchase an item from their shop. The payment can be paid by installment roughly RM100 plus per month. They're very persuasive and lastly my aunt being persuaded by them. The weird thing is, there is NO price being tagged on the electric item displayed in their shop. She was then being persuaded to buy the cooking set, which cost RM2988, and after rebate with the voucher given earlier that cost RM100 is RM2888.
Dear All, here's come the matter you all MUST take note & BEWARE on. These salespersons then ask for her credit card saying that to check the validity of that credit card. Well, normally we'll give out the credit card, the TERRIFYING action is that once they have the card, straight away they go to the inner side of the corner shop and swipe my aunt's credit card until the limit BURST!!!My Aunt was very shocked. At that moment her thinking suddenly dropped and there're lots of people over there, under NO CHOICE, My aunty has to sign on the print-out chits. She was been told the only way to successfully redeem the prizes is to clear all the balance.
Take note that, during 'cheating process', my aunt told me, she felt very tired and the concentration is very low, also the self-awareness. I am not sure whether they are using black magic or not because my aunt only can recalled after few hours of this incident happened. However, it is too late to ask for help. They act very fast, whole process only takes less than 10 minutes. Also be warned, this kind of cozen business has been moving around in Kuching, it is very serious cases at West Malaysia . Other places such as Satok, 4 th Miles, Sejingkat also has the similar business trap to consumers.
BE CAREFUL and ALWAYS ALERT in YOUR MIND. Recently, the salespersons hang around at 1st Floor, Wisma Seberkas to PIN their targets. IGNORE those salespersons directly. Bear in mind that there is no free lunch in this world.

Happy Diwali

Hindu believers in Malaysia shall be celebrating Deepavali tommorow, 8/11/2007. My company management has given half day early release for Hindu's staff. However, as my branch is located in Sarawak...we shall still be open as usual tommorow....yet again the Hindu community in Sarawak has not be able to convince the State Government for a gazetted holiday for this festival of light, although there was some light of granting the wish last year (Hopefully, it will be granted soon).

Do we have any Indian friends in our SHS8890 ? I could not recall any of them, if there is...except Mr. Loka & Mr. Lopez...our Indian teachers. Does anybody know where are they now ? It would be great if we could locate them and keep in touch with them. Without them, we may not know the existence of Indian community and their like (:))...of course beside giving us good lesson in the reproduction organs and ralats.

On..yes...tommorow we have a great activity lining up as we shall have the Chivas Supper Gathering (we shall have great fun...)...and most of all may tommorow be a wonderful day for such a wonderful celebration...Malaysia for Malaysian...Happy Deepavali...

Chivas Supper Gathering

Kuching's friends....anyone interested on the above on this coming Thursday 8/11/2007.
I know Ivy is free on this night (her off-night) and I personnally owe this one to her as I have promised her earlier on few occassions (it nearly fulfilled last Weds/Thursday if not because of my flu/fever or the heavy rain)...(hey...sorry Ardy..my sincere apology)

...in fact it has been nearly 2 months since our last face-face meet up back in Sarawak Club. I am sure we have a lot more to catch and share together especially we have only about 3 months for our Sibu Reunion 2008 where I would like to update and distribute some works/duties on behalf of Pat (if Pat's willing...:))

Further,...we can discuss on the following others topics;
a) Dim sum trip to Macau ?
b) Forming Brave Heart club ?
c) Watching LCD at Jalan Mendu ?
d) Going for a good movie together ?
e) Barbecue gathering at Ah Tee's new house ?

...wow...whatelse ?

So,...who is in ? and don't be shy-shy....
